Monthly Press Conference

Today, President Kenji Kudo held a monthly press conference in Aomori City and talked about the "Status of response to the New Regulatory Requirements" and the "Redesigning of JNFL’s website."

Status of Response to the New Regulatory Requirements

In the review meeting on seismic safety, convened on February 19th, JNFL explained about setting the design-basis seismic ground motion at 700 gal. Reviewers showed a general understanding that this is a reasonable examination. On April 15, JNFL also described the exceedance probability of the design-basis seismic ground motion, i.e. an assessment of the likelihood regarding earthquakes going beyond design-basis seismic ground motions. JNFL received reviewers’ understanding on this issue as well.

This, in effect, completes the review on particulars related to setting a design-basis seismic ground motion, and JNFL sees this as a large step forward.

JNFL is now conducting seismic evaluations for buildings and all kinds of facilities including equipment and pipes.

JNFL will continue to carefully address the remaining review items on tsunami and so forth upon organizing key points through hearings.

A review meeting on the Reprocessing Plant and the MOX Fuel Fabrication Plant will be convened this afternoon.

As for the Reprocessing Plant, JNFL will re-provide a comprehensive explanation of initial responses, and this will include issues on initial firefighting and rescuing the injured under fire outbreaks.

Regarding the MOX Fuel Fabrication Plant, JNFL will provide a summary of the design basis and describe the basic policy on severe accident preparedness.

The Redesigning of JNFL’s Website

JNFL launched its redesigned website on April 23 in an effort to scale up the site’s visibility, user-friendliness, and content.
