Press Release Concerning the Tenth 1997 Intake of Low-Level Radioactive Waste to the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Centre in Rokkasho-Mura

The final phase of the ongoing intake of Low-level Radioactive Waste from Genkai nuclear power station, operated by Kyushu Electric Company in Saga prefecture, was completed today.

Overland transport vehicles loaded with LLW began leaving Mutsu-Ogawara port at 9:56. The first vehicle arrived at the centre at 10:12, and the last vehicle was unloaded at 12:19. Intake of the LLW to the centre was officially completed at 12:22. The total number of the containers received today was 60 containers(480 drums), for an aggregate total of 120 containers(960 drums).

The aggregate number of drums received by the disposal centre in 1997 is 16592 drums(in 10 intakes).
The aggregate number of drums received by the disposal centre so far is 104432 drums(in 62 intakes).
