Press Release Concerning the Third Transport of Vitrified Waste to Japan

The consignees of the vitrified waste which will be returned from Europe made an announcement to release details of the shipment today. The details of the announcement are in appendix 1 and 2.



Appendix 1

Press Release Concerning the Third Transport of Vitrified Waste to Japan

The above parties who are responsible for the shipment announced to release details of the shipment.

The following information will be announced prior to the next return shipment:

1. The date of departure, name of the vessel and name of the departing port will be announced one or two days before departure.

2. The date of arrival at Mutsu-Ogawara port will be announced two weeks before the arrival of the shipment.

In addition, the route and approximate timing of the ship's arrival in Japan will be announced one day after the departure of the shipment.

The four consignees have also set up a transport headquarters, details of which are in appendix.

Appendix 2.

Electric Power Company's Transport Headquarters


The four consignees of the third vitrified waste transport (Tokyo, Kansai, Chubu and Kyushu electric power companies) have set up a transport headquarters to carry out the overall coordination of the transport. The headquarters, set up in July 1997, has been supervised by the general manager of Overseas Reprocessing Committee, Shinzou Baba.
Its work is outlined as follows:

1. Principal work
Contact and coordination between the electrical power companies and other parties relevant to the shipment.
Contact with the government agencies involved
Management of information relating to the shipment and public relations
Response in case of emergency
Other important matters related to the shipment
