Press Release Concerning Transshipment and Intake of Natural Uranium to the Rokkasho Uranium Enrichment Plant in Rokkasho-Mura

JNFL today announced that transshipment and intake of natural uranium to the Rokkasho Uranium Enrichment Plant is scheduled to be carried out on 14 July 1997.

Natural uranium imported from abroad and owned by Hokkaido Electric Company, Tohoku Electric Power Company, Tokyo Electric Power Company, Chubu Electric Power Company, Hokuriku Electric Power Company, Kansai Electric Power Company, Chugoku Electric Power Company, Shikoku Electric Power Company, Kyushu Electric Power Company and The Japan Atomic Power Company will be unloaded from "Eastern Hero", a charter ship of Panamanian registry, and transshipped to overland vehicles at the port of Mutsu-Ogawara on July 14 1997. The natural uranium will then be transported to the Rokkasho Uranium Enrichment Plant. A total of 1244 tons of UF6 stored in 100 cylinders (48Y-type) will be transported. Intake of all 100 cylinders is expected to take 4 days.
