Press Release Concerning the First 1997 Intake of Low-level Radioactive Waste to Low-level Radioactive Waste Disposal Centre in Rokkasho-Mura.

The intake of Low-level Radioactive Waste(LLW) from Fukushima 1 nuclear power plant, operated by Tokyo Electric Company in Fukushima prefecture, began today.

The total amount of LLW to be received during this intake will be 2560 drums, with each drum containing 200 liters of LLW. Intake of all 2560 drums is expected to take 3 days.

"Seiei Maru" , the ship transporting LLW arrived at the port of Mutsu-Ogawara at 7:25 am, and overland transport vehicles loaded with LLW began leaving the port at 9:32. The first vehicle arrived at the centre at 9:49 and the last vehicle was unloaded at 15:42. Intake of LLW to the centre was officially completed at 15:49. The total number of the containers received today was 120 containers(960 drums).
