| JNFL has compiled the findings of investigation
of the cause of water leakage in the PWR fuel storage pool of the spent
fuel receiving/storage facility and the remedial measures to be taken
from now on, and reported them to the Japanese government, Aomori Prefecture,
and Rokkasho-mura village on December 23, 2002.
Though the details have already been notified to all the parties
concerned, it is regrettable that JNFL could not help but spend a lot
of time to narrow down the areas of leakage, and could not identify
the area suspected of leaking water from the pool. Moreover, the improper
work on specified areas and the way of improper work management that
could not find such a bungled job caused many people, including the
citizens of the prefecture, a lot of worry and impaired the confidence
of society.
As the findings of investigations into the cause of water leakage
in the pool and the measures to be taken from now on are now collected
and arranged, JNFL has decided to provide the following penalties from
a viewpoint of management responsibility:
1. Penalties associated with the responsibility of management
The details of penalties associated with
the management responsibility are as follows:
Masashi Sasaki, President: 20% pay cut for 6 months
Yasuo Matsumoto, Executive Vice President: 15% pay
cut for 3 months
Toshio Inomata, Executive Vice President: 15% pay
cut for 3 months
Mitsuo Suzuki, Executive Vice President: 15% pay cut
for 3 months
Yoshio Hirata, Senior Managing Director and General
Manager for Reprocessing Business Division: 15% pay
cut for 3 months
Satoshi Nakata, Managing Director for Reprocessing
Business: 10% pay cut for 3 months
Sadaaki Sasaki, Director for Reprocessing Business
and Manager for Spent Fuel & Vitrified Waste Storage
Center: 10% pay cut for 1 month
2. Revision of "JNFL Action Charter"
Under JNFL Action Charter, JNFL has acted and clarified
its attitude and determination to develop a relationship built on trust
of society. However, in the light of the issues such as the way of coping
with the recent leakage of water from the pool, cover-up and others
of records of voluntary inspections in the nuclear power stations, the
statement regarding "Officials' Lead by Examples and Clarification
of Responsibility" in the Action Charter is revised as follows:
| 9. All officials, including the president, act
using their own initiative and give a good example to the others
at every scene of business activities, and clarify their responsibility
in order for the spirit of the charter to steadily penetrate into
all employees and lead to specific actions. |
