Investigations into the Cause of Leakage in the PWR Fuel Storage Pool in the Spent Fuel Receiving/Storage Facility and Remedial Measures

Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited

JNFL conducted investigations and analyses of test pieces cut out from lining at external research facilities to clear up the cause of leakage in the PWR fuel storage pool.
As a result, JNFL did not find any penetrated flaw that could cause leakage. JNFL has decided, therefore, to carry out examinations to locate a leak in the welding line of the western lining in the northern walls of the pool.
A paper attached hereto summarizes the results of investigations that JNFL thus far conducted into the cause of the leakage and remedial measures which the company will take.
Please note that JNFL reported today this particular matter to the Japanese government, Aomori Prefecture and Rokkasho Village authorities.
