Plan for Test Operation of Reprocessing Plant

JNFL today submitted its overall plan for test operation of reprocessing plant to the Director General of Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The plan has been submitted at the request of the Director General of Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency.

1. Positioning of Overall Plan
This plan has been organized from an overall plan for the test operation that will follow the chemical tests to be performed by JNFL, and it describes how JNFL will carry out the test operation based on the "Safety Regulations during Test Operation Phase of JNFL's Reprocessing Plant--Basic Policy on Confirmation of Test Operation Plan and Procedures for Inspection before Operation (Nuclear Fuel Cycle Safety Subcommittee of Nuclear Safety and Security Committee)."

2. Major Contents
(1) Purposes of Test Operation
·Confirmation of functions and performance of reprocessing plant
·Early detection and correction of nonconformity of equipment

In the process of achieving the purpose, the following targets will be accomplished:
- Improvement of technical expertise of operators and maintenance personnel
- Enrichment of documents of operation procedures, etc.

(2) Test Operation Schedule and Approach to Selection of Test Items
·In consideration of the purpose of the test operation, the functions and performance to be checked are extracted, and the items subject to safety confirmation are checked without omission before entering necessary test phases.
·Chemical test: from mid-September, 2002
·Uranium test: from around June 2003 (the date is scheduled to be changed to around October 2003)
·Overall test with spent fuel (hereinafter referred to as "Active Test"): from around July 2004
