Test Operation Plan for Reprocessing Facility

 JNFL announced that the company today submitted an overall test operation plan for the reprocessing facility to the Director General of Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The plan was submitted at the request of the Director General of Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

1. Position of overall plan
This plan deals with the test operations to be conducted after the chemical tests that will be carried out by JNFL, and describes JNFL's implementation of test operations based on "Safety Regulations on Test Operation Phase of Reprocessing Facility of JNFL--Basic Policy to Check Test Operation Plan and How to Proceed with Official Inspection before Commercial Operation (Nuclear Fuel Cycle Safety Subcommittee of Nuclear Safety and Security Committee).

2. Major contents
(1) Purposes of test operation
   - Confirmation of the functions and performance of the reprocessing facility
   - Early detection and correction of non-conformity of equipment
In the process of achieving the purposes, the following matters will also be achieved.
   - To improve the engineering capability of operators and maintenance personnel.
   - To replenish the operation procedure manuals, etc.
(2) Test operation schedule and ideas to select test items
   - The functions and performance that have to be checked will be extracted in consideration of the purposes of the test operation, and all of the safety check items will be checked without fail before reaching each phase of necessary tests.
   - The chemical tests: These tests are scheduled to start in the middle of September 2002 and after.
   - The uranium tests: These tests are scheduled to start in June 2003 (the date is scheduled to be changed to October 2003) and after.
   - The overall tests (hereinafter referred to as "Active Test"): They are scheduled to start in July 2004 and after.
