Message from the president: Regarding the Cabinet decision for "Basic Energy Plan"

April 11, 2014
Yoshihiko Kawai
President
Japan Nuclear Fuel Ltd.

Today, the Cabinet decided on the new Basic Energy Plan.

The plan positions nuclear power as "an important base-load power source that stabilizes energy demand and supply structure" and stipulates to continue to "promote" the nuclear fuel cycle which we are responsible for.

In light of the energy situation in resource-poor Japan, it is necessary to utilize nuclear power as an important power source, and the nuclear fuel cycle is extremely important for the effective use of uranium resources and reduction of radioactive wastes.

In this sense, it is extremely significant that the promotion of nuclear fuel cycle is clearly stated again in the nation's Basic Energy Plan.

We will continue to make company-wide efforts to establish the nuclear fuel cycle with utmost priority on safety.
