Monthly Press Conference


Today, President Kawai held a monthly press conference in Aomori City and talked about "Review on Compliance with the New Regulatory Requirements", "Results of a Mockup Test on the New Glass Melter" and "Welcome Ceremony for New Employees"

"Review on Compliance with the New Regulatory Requirements"

  • In the review meeting in February, the Nuclear Regulation Authority gave tough feedback on the need to sort the scope of "important-to-safety facilities" and explore various possibilities concerning severe accidents in formulating countermeasures.
  • In response, JNFL has reviewed the scope of "important-to-safety facilities".
  • In view of various possibilities, JNFL is drawing up multi-layered countermeasures to prevent the development and spread of a severe accident as much as possible, and plans to present them at next month's review meeting.
  • At the first review meeting on earthquake-resistant on March 28, JNFL gave a briefing on the geology and geological structure of the ground around the site, findings from assessment on main active faults such as the Deto West Fault and Shichinohe West Fault, and findings from assessment on faults along the perimeter of the continental shelf.
  • In response to the request for additional explanation with supplementary data on facts and several other matters, JNFL intends to examine them thoroughly and provide detailed explanation.

"Results of a Mockup Test on the New Glass Melter"

  • Various tests using simulated waste liquid, carried out at the new glass melter since November last year, were wrapped up successfully in mid-February, producing positive results.
  • JNFL will continue to conduct tests to build a new glass meter of the world's highest performance.

"Welcome ceremony for new employees"

  • The welcome ceremony for FY2014 is going to be held on April 1, welcoming 75 new employees.
  • Among them, 39 are high school graduates, 5 from vocational high school / junior college graduates and 31 from university / graduate school graduates. Approximately 70% of them are from Aomori Prefecture.
  • As a community-oriented company, JNFL wishes to contribute to improving local employment.
