Regarding the announcement of government's decision on "Innovative Strategy for Energy and the Environment"

Japan Nuclear Fuel Ltd.
President
Yoshihiko Kawai

Today, the Energy and Environment Council of the National Policy Unit announced the new policy on "Innovative Strategy for Energy and the Environment".

We took the news seriously that the government steady promotes the nuclear fuel cycle over a mid-long term; respecting the existing agreement with Aomori prefecture and that the reprocessing will be carried out as planned.

However, the policy abandoning nuclear power in 2030s is deplorable.

Considering that Japan has a limited amount of natural resources and we are obliged to relying on foreign countries. Therefore, the nation should firmly retain the nuclear power generation and it must continue to serve on the grand premise of securing safety.

It will be an unfortunate occurrence if we find out that the energy policy was a failure after 5 or 10 years. Therefore, the policy should be verified and re-examined continuously as the said Strategy is defining. We strongly demand that the decisions will be made on a composed manner, and based on the viewpoint of our promising future.
