Press Release Concerning Spent Fuel Loading & Unloading Exercises

In preparation for future intakes of spent fuel, JNFL announced today that spent fuel loading & unloading exercises will be carried out at the port of Mutsu-Ogawara from 7:30 AM on 8 September. An empty cask will be used during the exercise.

The exercise will proceed as outlined below.

  • The transport ship, "Rokuei-Maru", will come alongside the Takahoko wharf at the port of Mutsu-Ogawara
  • Cask will be unloaded from the transport ship and transshipped to an overland vehicle.
  • The cask will then be unloaded from the overland vehicle and put in a storehouse owned by Nuclear Fuel Transport Co., Ltd. at the port of Mutsu-Ogawara.
  • The transport ship will leave wharf.

The Transport ship and the Spent Fuel Receiving Building will be open to members of the Energy Writer's Club on 8 September. If interested, please apply to the Public Relation Division of JNFL. Please note that boarding of the transport ship on the appointed day may be canceled due to inclement weather conditions.
