Press Release Concerning the Third 1998 Intake of Low-Level Radioactive Waste to the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Centre in Rokkasho-Mura

The final phase of the ongoing intake of Low-level Radioactive Waste from Shimane nuclear power station, operated by Chugoku Electric Power Company in Shimane prefecture, was completed today.

Overland transport vehicles loaded with LLW began leaving Mutsu-Ogawara port at 9:50. The first vehicle arrived at the centre at 10:05, and the last vehicle was unloaded at 16:02. Intake of the LLW to the centre was officially completed at 16:08. The total number of the containers received today was 120 containers(960 drums), for an aggregate total of 200 containers(1600 drums).

The aggregate number of drums received by the disposal centre in 1998 is 4416 drums(in 3 intakes).
