Press Release Concerning the Ninth 1997 Intake of Low-Level Radioactive Waste to the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Centre in Rokkasho-Mura

The final phase of the ongoing intake of Low-level Radioactive Waste from Hamaoka nuclear power station, operated by Chubu Electric Company in Shizuoka prefecture and from Tokai-2 nuclear power station, operated by The Japan Atomic Power Company in Ibaragi prefecture, was completed today.

Overland transport vehicles loaded with LLW began leaving Mutsu-Ogawara port at 10:31. The first vehicle arrived at the centre at 10:49, and the last vehicle was unloaded at 12:17. Intake of the LLW to the centre was officially completed at 12:22. The total number of the containers received today was 37 containers(296 drums), for an aggregate total of 137 containers(1096 drums).

The aggregate number of drums received by the disposal centre in 1997 is 15632 drums(in 9 intakes).
The aggregate number of drums received by the disposal centre so far is 103472 drums(in 61 intakes).
