In 1999, Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited held the Japan-France Friendship Exchange Judo Competition in Aomori Prefecture for the youth of La Manche (Normandy, France) and Aomori as part of the exchange with the people of La Manche, home of the COGEMA-La-Hague Reprocessing Plant. La Manche is known for the particular favor its people show judo, and this year a delegation composed mainly of judoists from Aomori Prefecture was invited to France for a judo competition, an exchange activity following on last year's Aomori competition. As a local corporation rooted in the community, Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited conducts its operations keeping in mind the importance of developing in step with the local community. Based on the spirit of the declaration entitled "Aomori: The Sports Prefecture" announced by Aomori last year, the Japan-France Friendship Exchange is implemented with the cooperation of COGEMA and other interested parties from the perspective of actively participating in community initiatives as a local corporation.
